ATELIER
Custom Framing
ATELIER is the custom framing workshop of ORANGERIE Fine Art Gallery in Palm Springs.
Here, artworks are framed with the same care given to works exhibited in galleries and collections, using conservation-minded materials and thoughtful design. Many projects are framed using traditional archival techniques such as Japanese paper hinges and hand-mixed wheat starch paste.
Framer and General Manager Sky Russell, formerly of San Francisco, oversees the workshop and brings a strong background in archival framing techniques.
We welcome collectors, artists, and anyone seeking careful, well-made framing.
Come discuss your project with us — we’re pleased to meet you.

Materials & Craft
Joined Wood Frames
Most frames are built from carefully cut mouldings that are joined at the corners with professional underpinners used in gallery framing workshops. This method allows a wide range of profiles and finishes while producing strong, precise corners.
Closed Corner Frames
For certain works we offer closed-corner frames, where the corners are joined, finished, and gilded by hand. These frames are often seen in museums and provide a refined presentation for artworks that deserve a more traditional approach.
Archival Materials
Where appropriate, ATELIER uses conservation-grade backing boards, adhesives, and mounting methods designed to protect artwork from acidity and environmental damage. These materials help preserve works on paper, photographs, and other sensitive pieces over time.
Cotton Rag Matboards
We frequently use 100% cotton rag matboards, which are acid-free and exceptionally stable. These mats not only enhance the presentation of artwork but also provide an additional protective barrier between the artwork and the frame.
Museum-Quality Glazing
Most works framed at ATELIER use museum-grade glazing, often acrylic rather than glass. Modern acrylic glazing offers exceptional clarity, strong UV protection, and greater safety for larger works while remaining lightweight and durable.
Clear guidance
What It's Like to Work with ATELIER:
If you are new to custom framing, we will guide you through the process step by step. Our goal is to make the decisions clear and comfortable rather than overwhelming.
Thoughtful Choices
Rather than presenting endless options, we help narrow the possibilities to those that truly suit the artwork. This keeps the process focused and enjoyable.
Respect for the Artwork
Rather than presenting endless options, we help narrow the possibilities to those that truly suit the artwork. This keeps the process focused and enjoyable.
A Conversation, Not a Sales Pitch
Many of our clients already know exactly what they want, and we enjoy that too. ATELIER welcomes both first-time visitors and experienced collectors who wish to discuss framing decisions at a deeper level.
